Storypreneur Working Group 2020

******* SUBMISSIONS NOW CLOSED *******

The Challenge

How do you connect your film with an audience outside of the traditional movie ecosystem?

The pandemic has laid bare truths that have been true for quite awhile, the vast majority of people don’t go to the movie theatre to see smaller films, which are any that are not Hollywood/Disney blockbusters. This includes MOST films and certainly any film made in Canada.

THE OPPORTUNITY

How do you capitalize on this moment when people are looking for and watching more movies?

The pandemic has also meant more people are online and have more “free” time than perhaps ever before. Art and entertainment have never been more important as a time filler, a distraction, a catharsis, an education and more.

THE OFFER

Join a working group of underrepresented filmmakers to connect your story with your (perhaps yet to be determined) audience to create a kick a** case study.

Digital strategist and mentor, Annelise Larson will select 5 filmmakers & creators to work with through August and September 2020 in 8 weekly 1 hour meetings. Participants will also be expected to dedicate at least 5 additional hours a week for doing applied exercises, research, and experiments in audience development that will be the basis of the discussion each week. At the end of the 8 weeks, one project will get up to 3 hours a week of mentorship and support from Annelise for up to 6 weeks as they work to launch &/or re-release their project in Fall 2020. The results will be included in a case study to be shared with the media industry in Canada and beyond.

TO APPLY

To apply you need to:

  • Have a completed film or web series;

  • Own the rights to digitally distribute your project;

  • Dedicate at least 6 hours a week for 8 weeks during August and September (1 hour for the weekly meeting and 5+ for audience development activities);

  • Be willing to be part of a case study;

  • Be available to launch/re-release your project in Fall 2020 with 10+ hours of work each week (with up to 6 weeks of support from Annelise).

Preference will be given to Canadian underrepresented storytellers with pressing stories relevant to the current state of the world, although others in North America will be considered.

NB: There is NO MONETARY FEE to participate in the Storypreneur Working Group. You are paying with your significant time, energy & willingness to be part of the case study. You must attend at least 6 of the 8 weekly meetings, and commit to the additional hours (5-10+ each week) required outside the working group and mentorship meetings with Annelise to be eligible for the final mentorship intensive in Fall 2020. Times of these meetings are TBD and will be based on the overall availability of the selected participants.

SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW CLOSED. Thanks to all who applied!
